Playing a Vampire

Here we will discuss common information about vampires. For every “rule” about vampires, there is a vampire somewhere who manages to find a way to break the rule. For example, vampires can cross running water, to say they can not is a common misconception. This said, you can bet that sitting on the shore of a river somewhere is a vampire who has a psychological phobia about crossing to the other side.

Fiction:
Vampires do not have the word “Vampire” tattooed on their foreheads. Most vampires are indistinguishable from mortals (we have “Covenant of Vampires” above our characters in UO, but that is considered OOC information). Vampires survive (to a degree) by blending into human society.

Vampires are not repelled by the mere sight of a Holy Symbol (except for the Baali). Only in the hands of a mortal with True Faith can a vampire be held at bay. And then only if the Faith of the Holy Man is stronger then the Willpower of the vampire in question.

Vampires are not affected by running water or the smell of garlic.

Vampires do cast reflections in mirrors (except for the Lasombra).

Vampires can enter a house uninvited (except for the Tzimisce).

Vampires are not any more flammable then a normal human (except to sunlight of course).

Facts:
Vampires are burnt by sunlight (the Covenant has went to great lengths to create an artifact that protects us from the rays of the sun, but it still is unpleasant).

Vampires need to drink the blood of the living to survive (the Nagaraja actually need to consume flesh as well to survive).

Putting a stake through the heart of a vampire will immobilize him. The vampire will fall into what is known as Torpor (sleep of the dead) until the stake is removed.

Vampires have a fear of fire (except for the Baali).

Vampires “magic” known as Thaumaturgy comes from their blood, and not from outside themselves like mortal mages.

Vampires can grow fangs when they want to feed or fight.

Vampires can not be killed by normal means.

Cutting off the head of a vampire will kill him.

Burning the body of a vampire will kill him.
