Playing a Ghoul (Read this before you ask to join the COV) |
|
All new members to the Covenant must put in a period of time as a ghoul. No new member will start as a Vampire. Ghouls are the servants of the Covenant vampires. Being a ghoul is not an easy life, during the day they walk the land as gods, but at night the true masters arise and they become the lowest level on the food chain. All ghouls should expect to be treated poorly (In Character). They will be given the least appealing jobs and any talking back will be dealt with harshly.
What is a ghoul?:
Ghouls are mortals who are fed a very small amount of vampire blood at least once a month. A ghoul would be blessed with super human strength (although nothing like the power of a true vampire), they are immune to disease and they do not age. Rarely they will take on the disciplines of their vampiric masters, although their Rank in Disciplines would be low (maybe Rank One or possibly Rank Two).
Myths and misconceptions:
Ghouls are NOT Vampires.
Ghouls do NOT have fangs, they do NOT drink human blood (they could, but it would not do anything for them).
Ghouls are NOT mindless, although, they are blood bound to their Vampiric masters and therefore they are single minded in their pursuit to please their hosts. This single-minded outlook can have negative effects on artisans and craftsmen. Their creativity is hindered by it and therefore most craftsmen are not blood bound. There are so many ways to keep a weak mortal in line, blood binding is not necessary for most of them.
Facts about ghouls:
Ghouls are superhumanly strong. Most ghouls have Rank One Potence (although they tend to lose this upon being embraced). Rarely will a ghoul have Rank Two or higher Potence unless he has been around for an extremely long period of time.
Ghouls do tend to take on their master’s clan weaknesses. For example, a Brujah ghoul would probably find that he is much easier to anger then he was before the ghouldom. Also Nosferatu ghouls tend to have their appearances deteriorate rapidly.
Vampiric blood is highly addictive. Drinking a sip of it usually results in the ghoul becoming addicted to it (psychologically). If a ghoul (or even a Vampire) drinks the blood of the same Vampire on three different occasions, he will become “Blood Bound” to the host. This state of mind is similar to the feeling mortals experience called love. This is not a sexual thing, more of a psychological experience. A Blood Bound ghoul would risk his own life to make his Vampiric host happy.
Ghouls do not share their Vampiric masters phobia of fire. No one likes to be burnt, but ghouls are not paralyzed by the sight of fire like many vampires.
Ghouls are not affected by Holy Symbols like Vampires are in the hands of a mortal with True Faith (Paladins, Clerics, other holy men). Other religious relics like Holy Water have no affect on them either.
